1. Who we are
DartTrip ("the app", "we", "us") is a mobile app that helps you discover random destinations within driving distance. This policy explains what data the app touches and what we do with it. Spoiler: very little, and nothing in a way that identifies you.
2. What the app accesses on your device
📍 Your location
We request access to your phone's location only while you're using the app. We use it to:
- Centre the map on where you are
- Find real towns and cities within your selected driving range
- Calculate distance and travel time to your destination
Your location is processed on your device. It is never sent to any server we control. When the app fetches places from OpenStreetMap (see below), only the coordinates needed for that lookup are sent — never tied to you, never stored.
📸 Your photo library
If you tap a share button (Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, etc.), we ask permission to save a generated share card to your photo library. We do not read, browse, or upload existing photos. Permission is only used to add the new image.
📖 Your dart diary, ratings, and stats
Every throw, visit, rating, and review is stored locally on your device using your phone's secure storage. This data never leaves your phone unless you choose to share a card via a social app.
3. What we don't do
- We don't have user accounts. There's nothing to sign up for.
- We don't use analytics (no Google Analytics, no Mixpanel, no Firebase tracking).
- We don't run ads.
- We don't sell, rent, or share your data with third parties.
- We don't track you across apps or websites.
- We don't have a server collecting your throws or visits.
4. Third-party services
To work, the app makes anonymous requests to a few public services:
- OpenStreetMap (Overpass API) — to find real towns, restaurants, parks, and other amenities near a location. Their privacy.
- Wikipedia — to fetch a photo and short description of the destination. Their privacy.
- Nominatim — to look up the province/country name for a coordinate. Their privacy.
- Apple Maps / Google Maps — to render the map and your location. Apple · Google.
These services see only the coordinate or place name needed for the request — not your identity, device ID, or anything that could profile you.
5. Sharing to social apps
When you tap an Instagram, WhatsApp, TikTok, or "More" share button, the app hands the generated card to that other app. From that point on, that app's privacy policy applies. We have no control or visibility over what they do.
6. Children
The app is suitable for users aged 4 and over. We collect no personal data from anyone, regardless of age.
7. Your rights
Because we don't collect or store any personal data on our side, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. To wipe your local diary, ratings, and stats: open the app → 🏆 (top right) → "Reset all data" at the bottom of the screen.
8. Changes to this policy
If we ever change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and (for material changes) note it in the app. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
